The Prep/Short Order Cook is responsible for food preparation in a high-paced, busy kitchen. Successful candidates will also be required to perform a number of kitchen activities including general cleaning duties, dishwashing, storing food and supplies.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of recipes, procedures and plating for all menu, special and promo items
  • Preparing grill/char grill/salad/sandwich/entrée items to recipe or special order
  • Meeting timing standards
  • Coordinating with others and assisting coworkers as needed
  • Working cooperatively with front of house staff to respond to guest needs
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, safety and food safety throughout the shift
  • Stocktaking, cleaning, and opening and closing tasks
  • Assisting with any other duties designated by a Manager or the kitchen leader
  • Ensuring areas of responsibility are well-stocked and guest-ready

Position requirements/skills:

  • BC Food Safe 1 (or equivalent)
  • Previous kitchen experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Well organized, shows a sense of urgency
  • Ability to track multiple orders and multi-task
  • Works well under pressure
  • Team player, works productively with others
  • Understanding of food safe practices

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length
  • Ability to lift 11kg (25lbs) regularly
  • Must be able to push and pull equipment of various sizes and weights
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks
  • Requires grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, hearing ability and visual acuity
