Working as a nanny in the UK means you’re more than just an Au Pair, you’re a new member of the family. Nannies provide families with an excellent opportunity to get some much-needed help with childcare, as well as employ someone who can manage light housekeeping duties. This service is invaluable to modern families with two working parents.

What will I be doing?

Duties will vary with each role, in general though you can expect to complete morning routines; prepare breakfast and lunch, do school runs, take children to after-school activities and complete the evening routines.

You will be needed to help school-aged children with homework, expected to provide different activities and organise playdates or excursions in the school holidays. Help with bed and bath time, and changing nappies (if required).

Families love hands-on nannies who are happy to engage in play and create an uplifting and encouraging environment.

You may also perform basic nursery duties – changing beds, laundry for children, and light house duties.

And of course, you’ll be reporting to the parents on the above!

Where will I be working?

Roles are mainly located in Central London and the families are based in the North, South and West of the City and include:

– Live in, Live out and family assistance nannying roles

– Full-time and Part-time roles

What hours will I work?

Hours will vary depending on each role – live in positions are particularly good for less-experienced candidates and for someone who is wanting to jump into a home environment when they arrive.

Live-out roles are also available and it is important to consider carefully where to base yourself as your location can impact your options – we are happy to guide you on this.

There are a variety of positions with hours ranging 25+ per week. When matching you with a family, the team will do their best to match you in a role where the required hours will suit you.

Some roles offer opportunities to increase your normal weekly hours by babysitting for the family when required.

What experience do I need?

Opportunities available to each individual will reflect the experience and qualifications held.

To be eligible you will need to have at least one year experience working with or caring for children either formally or informally. Teaching, childcare or nursing qualifications are favoured but not essential.

The main thing required when working with children is to possess a ”can do attitude” and lots of energy!

What are the rates of pay like?

Rates of pay vary depending on experience and whether the role is live in or live out.

Live-in pay ranges from £18k to £31k gross salary per annum, depending on your experience and the number of hours worked. The live-out pay is around £28k per annum.

Please note that live-in roles include free accommodation, some meals and wifi. Families will cover all the utility bills in the home.

This pay includes 20 days annual leave + bank holidays. The majority of the families choose 10 of these days and you choose the other 10.

If you’d like a better idea of your expected earnings based on your experience, please contact the team on the details below and we’ll organise an interview for you.

How old will the children be?

The children in your care can be anywhere from newborn age to 18 years old.

Some families have twins, triplets, or multiple siblings and some have only one child.

Is there a minimum commitment time?

As a Nanny, you’ll become a part of the family – often you will be in a sole care role taking care of the kids.

Parents (and the children!) love consistency so you must be able to commit to a minimum of 12 months with a family to be eligible for a position.

Job requirements:

As you’ll be working with children, there are a number of recruitment and vetting checks that need to be carried out before you can begin work as a Nanny.

To start work as a Nanny in the UK you’ll need to show the following:

  • A National Police Check – This MUST be dated within the last 3 months at the time of your arrival here to the UK. If your arrival is more than 3 months away, please wait to apply or your check will be invalid!
  • Proof of your eligibility to work in the UK (in most cases this is proof of your visa or UK/EU passport)
  • An up-to-date CV – it is a bonus if you can supply relevant (contactable) references too. Reember to include ALL childcare experiences!
  • An up-to-date First Aid certificate that covers Paediatrics
